It isn’t often that we talk about politics. It is one of those topics have a tendency to polarize the parties involved in discussion. That being said, we came across this talk recently and it really made an impression on us, and has some very strong political implications in today’s society. As neither of us are really that politically savvy, we will leave it up you to find out more about how it is relevant today if you would like.
One of the things that really impressed us is how President Benson said that Socialism always leads to two things. The first is a loss of personal liberty and the second is financial ruin. President Benson really lays out how a plan to take from one person and give it to another will eventually lead to a huge government and that leads to a loss of freedom. When we got done listening we had a couple of thoughts about what we can do in our lives.
First and foremost, we need to take care of ourselves. We should not rely on the government to give us a handout. We need to be doing all that we can to provide for ourselves. A handout is an easy way out. That being said, there is a time and place for everything. If a person needs some help, that is acceptable, but not as a long term solution. When you work for it, it means a whole lot more. Whether it is food, a job, insurance, or what ever it may be. It always means more when you have worked and saved and sacrificed for it. We need to take care of ourselves.
